Sangai-3-copy-735x400IMPHAL, Jul 26: Students of CC Higher Secondary School today took out a protest rally demanding enforcement of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) or a similar mechanism in the State and revocation of the Government order which de-clared former JCILPS convenor Kh Ratan as a wanted man.
However, the rally was cut short as police prohibited them from marching ahead and fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the students.
Even as the strong police team somehow managed to drive back the students within their school campus, a tense confrontation broke out between the two sides.
While the students pelted stones, police retaliated by firing tear gas shells.
A little later, the students came out and started marching towards the Chief Minister’s official residence. They were halted by police at Sanjenthong using steel barricades.
Unable to breach the barricades, the students sat down in the middle of Sanjenthong Bridge.
In the meantime, students of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy assembled at Konung Mamang together some other students who were already present there. The second group also tried to take out a protest rally.
Again they were confronted by police who also fired tear gas shells. In the melee, one student collapsed. The student was taken to Remedy Hospital.
Soon they were joined by students of TG Higher Secondary School and Johnstone Higher School and they marched North up to Minuthong.  At Minuthong, they were prevented from marching any farther by another strong police team. There, they staged   a protest demonstration by sitting down in the middle of the bridge. Three student protesters were detained by for sometime but they were freed later.
On the other hand, demanding revocation of protest tag placed upon Khomdram Ratan and enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism, siti-in-protest were staged today at Singjamei Keithel, Singjamei Sapam Leikai and Singjamei Thokchom Leikai.
