Widows demand justice in CCpur murder

IMPHAL, Dec 15: Taking serious view of the incident of raping and murdering of a middle aged women at Churachandpur, the Conflict Widows Forum, Manipur has demanded justice in the incident and warned of launching severe forms of agitation if government authorities failed to bring justice. The Forum demanded justice to the Churachandpur incident within 10 days time.
The Conflict Widows Forum, Manipur along with like minded NGOs of the Christian Network for Positive Women of Manipur, Centre for Social Development and Women Action for Development have today convened a joint press meet at the Press Club, Major Khul against the gruesome incident at Churachandpur in which a woman was found murdered and abandoned without any clothes at a paddy field located between Phaikot and Ngurte village on December 13.
Declaring that sever agitation would be launched in government fail to act on the issue N Chandrakala Devi, convener of Imphal West CWFM, has condemned the act of discarding the dead body of a woman after outraging her dignity in the open outdoor.
She further maintained that even as WAD and various other likeminded organizations in the state were organizing a fortnight long awareness campaign on violence against women and children however the state has seen increased rate violence on women both on the opening and closing day of the campaign, which is an indication of the status of the women in the state at present.
Questioning government’s silent and indifferent attitude towards the issue of violence against women, Chandrakala declared today that the organizations will not remain silent and after joining force with the women of the state the organizations will take further agitation in case the government failed to take action in the stipulated 10 days time.
In the meantime, the United NGOs Mission, Manipur has also expressed its strong condemnation on the recent brutal murder and abandoning of a woman at Yaiphakol paddy field near Thingkhnagphai village under Churachandpur police station on December 13.
A release of the United NGOs Mission Manipur expressing its deep shock on the report, mentioned that the mission is an apex network body of various NGOs of the state representing many ethnic communities inhabiting the state and striving for a healthy and harmonious coexistence amongst the people of the state.
The release further mentioned that the mission is taking serious count on the recent heinous crimes that has been committed to one woman at Yaiphakol paddy field under Churachandpur police station on December 13, while various rights organizations of the state are observing the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women marking beginning of the International Fortnight Protesting violence against women generally observed from November  25 to December 10 this year. It strongly urged all concerned, government and DGPC Manipur  to book the culprits involoved in the Churachandpur rape and murder incident.
The release further mentioned that people are shocked and traumatized by the news of such a heibous crime in the state just after conclusion of the fortnight  long observation violence against women throughout all the districts in the state and at the international level.
It is really one main challenging and discriminating the rights of women in the state and around the globe. Besides, there have been many instances of rape, murder and crime against women in the state in the recent and past. However, in most of such cases, state government has promised to take stringent action which however remain only in word.
