Preservation of dying art forms stressed

IMPHAL, Dec 28: The 18th annual celebration of the Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre, Imphal was observed today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Hall.
The annual show was graced by Dhirendar Bhatnagar, secretary general Confederation of UNESCO Club Association India, New Delhi (CUCA) as the chief guest, Padmashree N. Khelchandra Singh as the president and Dr. K. Sobita Devi, Director (Art and Culture) Government of Manipur as the guest of honour of the function .
In his chief guest speech, Dhirendar Bhatnagar noted that since 1992 the UNESCO with the motive to protect and preserve the threatened cultural heritage or historical sites, had declared all these sites as world heritage and enshrined under special provision, further adding he stress the need to give equal importance to all cultural art forms.
In the world filled with conflict, corruptions etc the youths of today are confused and have failed to recognized the importance of such dying cultural art forms. They instead put their focus on getting Government jobs, adds Dhirendar Bhatnagar.
Dhirendar Bhatnagar further revealed that in order to preserve the dying art forms the youths have to play a crucial role.
Performance of traditional dance by various dance troupes of different communities, classical dance, performance of traditional songs, distribution of awards and offering of condolence to expired Gurus of the various cultural forms etc. marked the observation.
