IMPHAL, Aug 23: A press release by Aheiba Angom, secretary in-charge of publicity and propaganda of the proscribed PREPAK has alleged that one of its cadre was shot dead in a fake encounter. A release stated that one Waheng Abon alias Vicky, 32, son of Late Samungou of Takyel Kolom Leikai was arrested by Thoubal police commandos attired in plainclothes on the 12th of this month at around 5.30 pm from the residence of one Late Naorem Sanayai at Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai . He was allegedly kept in their custody for two days and was severely tortured. He was afterwards taken to Wabagai Natek Thong by the combined troops of the 21 AR and Thoubal commandos and was shot dead in custody.
The outfit claimed that the press release of Thoubal SP Clay Khongsai claiming that Waheng Abon was shot dead in an encounter which took place between Wabagai Tera Pishak Natek Thong and Kharungpat on the night of 14th August and one M-16 rifle along with live ammunition and a handgrenade was recovered from the slain individual is baseless and fictitious.
The outfit alleged that it has become the nature of the police commandos and the para military forces to stage such fake encounters.
The PREPAK paid its homage to the slain cadre Waheng Vicky and lamented his loss. He had joined the outfit in the 15th batch and held the rank of corporal.
