IMPHAL, Mar 1 : With the first phase election just a few days away (March 4), BJP National president Amit Shah who is on a campaign tour to the State, today asserted that if voted to power, the BJP will surely make Manipur a Model State in the next five years.
The BJP National president said this while addressing a huge public meeting at the ground of Yumnam Leikai Lairembi under Singjamei Assembly Constituency today.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that though Manipur has a rich tradition and culture, has huge tourism potential and is famous as a sports power house, the Congress which has ruled the State for the last 15 years has failed to tap any of these potentials as they are too busy lining their own pockets.
Claiming that Congress and corruption are two sides of the same coin, Amit Shah said that whether it is at the Centre or the States, wherever the Congress is in power, there are always scams.
On the Framework Agreement signed with the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015, Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath have given their assurance that it will not in any way impact on the integrity of the State.
“As the party president, I also assure you all that the Framework Agreement will not affect the territory of Manipur,” he added.
Training his guns on the Congress Government in Manipur, Amit Shah said that though the Centre has been pumping in huge funds for development projects, the State Government has failed to submit utilisation certificates.
Directing a poser at the Chief Minister, Amit Shah asked, “If the funds have been exhausted without doing any work, then where have all the funds disappeared.”
Promising to crack down on corruption, Amit Shah said that fitting action will be taken up against all those found guilty of misappropriating public fund.
Amit Shah also questioned where all the rice quota given under the National Food Security Act have gone. The Chief Minister should give the answer to this poser, he added.
The BJP has already spelt out what it would do for the welfare and development of the people and the place, he added. The BJP will never compromise with corrupt elements and accountability will be fixed if and when the BJP comes to power.
As such a clean Government is the need of the hour, said Amit Shah and added that if the people repose their faith in the BJP, then in five years Manipur will be made a Model State.
Law and order will be restored and there will be no cases of fake encounters, said Amit Shah and added that focus will be given on how to resolve the conflict situation in the State.
Stating that Manipur will be made a bandh and blockade free State, if the BJP is elected to power, Amit Shah said that the ongoing blockade will also be put to an end within 24 hours and added that the first task of the BJP Government will be to end the blockade.
Titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba, BJP MP Prahlad Singh Patel, State BJP president K Bhabananda, veteran politician O Joy, former Minister N Biren, BJP candidate in Singjamei AC Y Khemchand and National vice president of BJP Mahila Morcha A Sarda Devi attended the public meeting.
