IMPHAL, Mar 17: 12 Assam Rifles Khudengthabi Post arrested two suspected ISIS agents during Holi festival on March 14 from Imphal-Moreh road along Asian Highway No 2 around 12 km away from India-Myanmar border.
They are identified as Naina Mohammed (56) s/o Haja Alawdeen from 13 Subramaniya Street Chepauk, Triplicane, Chennai in Tamil Nadu and I Abubacker (46) s/o Ibramsa from Sevenwells Street, Chennai.
According to sources, two persons who came on a Maruti van bearing registration number WB 02 AD-1072 were stopped by a team of 12 AR at permanent vehicle check post at Khudengthabi at around 3.30 pm.
When checked, four mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, 14 SIM cards including six International SIM cards which belong to UAE, Singapore and Sri Lanka, International currency note belonging to Cambodia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Kuwait and Qatar were found from the possession of the individuals.
The two ISIS suspects revealed that they left Chennai on March 12 by train and reached Dimapur via Kolkata on March 11 and finally reached Imphal and Moreh on March 12.
The duo further revealed that they visited Moreh to meet their aunt Hamida for business purpose and that it was their second visit to the border town since January of last year.
Following the revelation, 12 AR enquired Tamil Sangam to ascertain whether the two individuals are related to the organisation. The organisation clarified that it has no connection with the individuals whatsoever and they are not related to the people residing in Moreh either.
From CCTC footage, it came to light that the two ISIS suspects had travelled to Moreh from Imphal on March 9.
As per the mobile phones seized from them, the individuals have contacts in UAE, Sri Lanka and Qatar.
The sources said the two ISIS suspects continuously changed their statements and failed to give specific reasons on their visit to Moreh . Later both of them were handed over to Moreh police station. An FIR bearing number No 10 (3) 2017 has been registered in the police station under Section 121/121-A/511 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
The two arrested persons were produced before the Court concerned which remanded them to police custody till March 22.
