IMPHAL, Mar 28: Minister of Manipur Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) and Town Planning, Th Shyamkumar has assured that Kwakeithel, Lamlong and Kongba markets will be newly constructed soon and also Khwairamband Keithel would be beautified in such a way that not even a piece of waste paper would be seen at the historic market.
The Minister made the assurance while inspecting the condition of Kongba, Lamlong and Kwakeithel areas today morning.
He further assured that main markets in Imphal, including Khwairamband Keithel would witness remarkable changes within one month.
He said that the State Government will keep a tight vigil on dumping of waste materials in front of shops and markets.
If necessary licence of those offenders will be cancelled, the Minister cautioned.
He maintained that the Government will take strong exception to polluting of markets and dumping of waste materials in front of shops.
At first Minister Shyamkumar inspected Kongba Market where he was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary (Finance and Science & Technology), Th Satyabrata.
The Minister then inspected Lamlong Market. There he was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary (Home), L Sushildro.
Finally the Minister accompanied by Minister of Health and Family Welfare, L Jayentakumar inspected Khwairamband Keithel.
Shyamkumar expressed that condition of the three markets is disheartening.
He elaborated that a proposal will be sent to the Ministry concerned after having a discussion with the Chief Minister and top Government officials for reconstruction of the three markets and other markets in Imphal city.
He said that the Government will put in earnest efforts to complete the reconstruction of the markets within one year.
Replying to a query, the Minister said that the markets to be reconstructed will accommodate parking lot,s toilet complexes and other facilities.
MAHUD Director N Gitkumar who is also the Chief Town Planner and MAHUD Joint Director Ng Uttam accompanied the Minister on the inspection tour.
