IMPHAL, Apr 10: With potable water finally reaching their doorsteps, people living within three wards of Lamdeng under Lamsang Assembly constituency are now enjoying a new taste of life.

Meanwhile, Lamsang AC MLA and State Planning Board Deputy Chairman S Rajen today conducted field inspection of PHCs and PHSCs located within his Assembly segment together with Health Director Dr O Ibomcha and the Imphal West CMO.

Rajen also made a spot assessment of potable water supplied to the people of Lamdeng.
It is said that three PHED water tankers of 10,000 litres capacity each would be supplying potable water to the three wards of Lamdeng every alternate day.

A large number of people were seen tapping piped water and they were visibly exhilarated.
S Rajen stated that potable water supply to the people of Lamdeng has begun today after he exerted sustained pressure on PHED in order to fulfil his election promise to the same effect. Informing that PHED has already initiated due procedures to procure water pipes, Rajen claimed that regular water supply can be ensured to the people of Lamdeng by connecting water pipes to Kangchup line once the pipes reach Imphal.

Pipes for supplying water to Khonghampat Mantri Leikai and Lamphel Yaipha Leikai have been already procured and these areas would have access to piped water very soon, said the State Planning Board Deputy Chairman.

Even though he was exuberant on seeing people’s joy in getting potable water, Rajen said that he was disappointed with the existing condition of PHCs and PHSCs located within his Assembly Constituency. The buildings are in such a sorry state because the local MLA did not give due information to the officials concerned during the past 15 years, he said.

Nonetheless, he assured to make up all the shortages and shortfalls at the earliest in consultation with the Health Director and the Imphal West CMO. He promised that construction of Khonghampat PHC building within the current month and the same would be inaugurated by the second week of May.

Salam PHSC would be upgraded to the level of a PHC and doctors would be sent to all PHCs every week on rotational basis, Rajen assured. With regard to alleged misappropriation of six months’ PDS rice entitled to the people of Lamsang AC, Rajen said a sum of Rs 41 lakh was handed over to him in lieu of the misappropriated rice.

He further assured that the amount currently in his possession would be utilised in transparent manner for the welfare of beneficiaries in accordance with their wishes.
