IMPHAL, Apr 25 : In order to help weavers of Manipur generate sustainable income, the State Government has informed the schools and college to purchase Phanek from the handloom weavers, said Lamsang AC MLA S Rajen.
Speaking at the orientation programme on self-help group formation and linkage with bank, MLA S Rajen said, “Setting up self-help groups and organising training programmes for the members are commendable. The State Government has informed the schools and colleges authorities of the State to notify the students to purchase Phanek from the handloom weavers. This initiative has been taken up so that handloom weavers can generate sustainable income.”
The MLA also urged the weavers to produce quality products and announced that banks will provide loan upto Rs 10 lakh for weavers so that they can venture into entrepreneurship without having to worry about business enterprise. However, it is a must to know how to acquire loan and repay the same on time.
The orientation programme was jointly organised by NABARD, Manipur Region, National Co-operative Union of India (Women Wing), Manipur State Co-operative Bank Ltd, Imphal and staff of KVK, Imphal West ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre.
The function was also atttended by N Ranjan, director, Institute of Co-operative Management, N Guite, dy gen manager, NABARD, Manipur Region, Angoutombi, deputy general manager, Manipur State Co-operative Bank and N Prakash, joint director, ICAR Research Complex for NE Region.
