IMPHAL, Aug 21: The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, has issued “No Objection Certificate” to the Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO) for the import of 30,000 metric tonnes of rice from Myanmar to Manipur under the provision of Foreign Trade Policy 2009-14.
A notification from the managing director of MANIDCO further stated that the Director General of Foreign Trade has been approached by the Commerce and
Industries Department, Manipur for issue of authorization and permission as per the Custom Notification No.118/2009-Customs dated 14/10/2009 for allowing import of 30,000 metric tonnes of rice, a restricted item by filling form no. ANF 2B with the Regional Authority (JDGFT), Guwahati along with fee prescribed at APPENDIX 21B @ Rs 2 per thousand of CIF of rice.
The quantity of rice to be imported being huge and within a very short time limit for availing the zero duty, the managing director of MANIDCO has also invited applications from interested and intending firms of Manipur which have counterpart firms in Myanmar or having the capacity to procure rice from Myanmar by depositing the required fund including the fees so involved for importing rice through MANIDCO. The amount deposited by the firms is to be transferred to the counterpart firms by the intending firms.
