Two KCP militants gunned down, arms recovered; six others held

IMPHAL, Aug 21: At least two armed cadres suspected to be belonging to the underground KCP were gunned down by the personnel of 26 Assam Rifles yesterday evening around 7.45 pm in secluded hilly areas near N Boljang village under Sapermeina police station. The security forces recovered several arms and ammunitions from the deceased’s possession.

While in another incidents security forces also arrested at least six militant cadres in different separate counter insurgency operation.

According to an official source, the troops of 26 Assam Rifles on getting specific information on the movement of some unidentified armed UG groups suspected to be valley based organizations into the adjoining areas of Sangaithel and N Boljang village since the last two days, conducted swift operations in the areas last evening around 7pm.

The source further mentioned that the troops while entering the hilly terrain areas of N Boljang village came under heavy attack from well equipped armed UGs, and carried out tactical retaliation against them resulting in an heavy exchange of fire from both sides for more than 30 minutes at the spot.

The source further stated that since the incident occurred in the late evening hours the entire place became covered by darkness as a result of which the troopers had to resort to using several Para Illuminators during the course of the operations to stop the UGs from fleeing the spot.

The source also mentioned that the Assam Rifles troops advanced towards the direction in which the armed UGs managed to escape by using Para illuminators. The troops were able to recover two bullet riddled dead bodies of militants in combat dress. They also recovered one AK-56 Rifle along with three magazines and 120 live ammunitions of Ak 56 Rifle, one lethod gun with 11 live shells, and one .32 pistol with one magazine containing one live ammunition from the spot.

The troops continued a night long search operation at the encounter site, during which after official intimation to the concerned police station by the Assam Rifles the two dead bodies were picked up and brought to Lamsang police station in the morning for official identification.

Later, the dead bodies of the two slain cadres were brought to RIMS morgue by the combined team of Lamsang police and Sapermeina police for identification and post mortem in the late afternoon.

The identities of the two slain cadres are yet to be ascertained.

Another reliable source, said that two other suspects were also apprehended by the Assam Rifles troops during the course of operations in N Boljang village last night.

There was no official intimation given to the concerned police station by the Assam Rifles on the arrests, the source added.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the SP Imphal East district police, a team of the district commandos have arrested four cadres of the proscribed KCP (MC) militant yesterday.

It said that at bout 8:36 am the commandos team arrested one cadre of the KCP (MC) namely Thongam Noren Singh, 34, s/o Th. Akham Singh of Pheija Leitong Thongju from Ayangpalli are. On verification the individual disclosed that he is an active member of the KCP (MC).

It said the further on the same day at about 9:45 am, a team of the district commandos arrested three more KCP (MC) cadres from their respective houses.

The individual have been identified as one Ningthoujam Millan Singh, 39,s/o (L) N. Yaosangjao Singh of Lilong Santipur Leikai, Lukram Lalutombi alias Ibocho Singh, 51, s/o (L) L. Ibomcha Singh of Tera Lukram Leirak at present staying at Lamphel Loukhongpan and Moirangthem Ibomcha alias Ramananda alias Yambung Singh, 51, s/o (L) M. Kirti Singh of Tera Sapam Leirak.

One demand letter of KCP (MC) address to Dr. L. Chandramani Singh of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai Muchi Leirak, demanding rupees 5 lakhs, signed by one Lamyanba Khuman was recovered from the possession of Moiranthem Ibomcha.

On verification, they disclosed that they joined KCP (MC) in the year 2010 through one Joy and they were involved in extortion of money from general public, Govt. officials, businessmen etc, said the statement.

At the same time, another statement issued by the SSP Imphal West district police, acting on credible information, the Imphal West District police today arrested one cadre of UNLF from Uripok Canteen Leirak yesterday evening at about 6:30 pm.

The cadre is identified as Gurumayum Botomba Sharma alias Manikanta 28 years so of G. Santikumar Sharma of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.

On spot verification, he disclosed that he had joined the outfit, UNLF in the month of  January 11, 2006, through one Tongbram Tiken alias Inao of Sagolmang Salam Leikai.

And he got basic military training at Mithi (Burma) as 32nd Batch, adds the release.
