IMPHAL, Aug 21: The United Committee Manipur has asked all the transport societies engaged in passenger services to charge fares at the rate existed before ANSAM economic blockade till government made a new order.
A UCM statement said the series of meetings held between the organisation and several transport societies had agreed to charge fares as existed before the month of May, 2010.
While appealing to the commuters to pay fares as normally done before the economic blockade, the UCM appealed to owners and drivers of the passenger vehicles not to charge fares as taken during the blockade period.
The UCM also warned that drivers and owners of passenger vehicles should bear responsibility on their own in case of any untoward incidents.
The National Identity Protection Committee and the AMSU have also appealed to the drivers and owners of passenger vehicles like auto-rickshaws and Tata Magic to charge fares as charged before the economic blockade, till an arrangment is made by the state transport department.
Both the organisations also appealed to the government to take action at the earliest regarding the matter.
