IMPHAL, Sept 28: Altogether 12 cadres of the Pakan Reunification Army (PRA) including its secretary surrendered before the DGP Manipur and Major General CA Krishanan, IGAR(S), along with arms and ammunitions in a formal surrender ceremony held today at the auditorium of IGAR (S) headquarters located at Mantripukhri.
The ceremony was attended by family members of the surrendered cadres as well top officials of the security forces including the Imphal West SP Kailun.
The PRA is an outfit mainly operating in some area of Chandel district.
The surrendered cadres include one self-styled, SS, secretary of the PRA, two SS Sgt Major, one SS sergeant, one SS L/Corporal and other are Privates.
The secretary of the (PRA) identified as one Nungchin, 53, of Mankang village Chandel district surrendered two flags of PRA, S/S Sgt Maj. SK Samuel Lamkang 38 of Saktaikarong village Chandel surrendered along with one 7.62 mm AK 56 rifle, one magazine, 40 live rounds of AK ammunitions and an AK 47 paunch, S/S Sgt Maj A. Thangboi Vaiphei, 25, of Phaiphe village CCpur surrendered with one 7.62 mm G4 LMG with 2 magazine and 50 live rounds and a pouch, S/S Sgt James 32 yrs of Komlathabi village of Chandel surrendered along with one Pt colt Magnum Pistol, one magazine and 11 live round.
S/S L/Cpl Kh. Mark, 22, of Betuk village Chandel district surrendered along with one 6.35 mm Star Pistol and one magazine with 8 live rounds, S/S Pvt R. Thomson, 24, of Mankang village Chandel surrendered along with one 7.65 mm pistol, one magazine and 9 live rounds, S/S Pvt. Ch Pelson Moyon, 26, of Mankang village Chandel district along with one 9mm pistol two magazine and 10 live round.
S/S Pvt Andrew, 22, of Mankang village Chandel district with one 9mm pistol one magazine, S/S Pvt N. Thomas, 22, of Makang village Chandel one COM RS with BTY one Whip antenna and one Bty charger, S/S pvt SK Jhonson 20 yrs of Saktaikarang village chandel district along with one RS Kenwood one battery one Whip antenna RS Kenwood and one battery charger, S/S Pvt Sangte Vaiphei 23 yrs of Torbung village Ccpur and S/S Pvt Momon Vaiphei 21 of Torbung village Churachandpur district.
Speaking to media person during the surrender ceremony, DGP Y Joykumar said that necessary steps will be initiated to check the new trend of smuggling or harbouring of arms using toys and others materials especially in the border area.
While stating that Manipur is in desperate need for peace, the Manipur police chief noted that surrender of PRA militants is a step towards acquiring peace. He also asserted that security forces will made joint efforts from all possible angle to acquire peace in the troubled state.
The DGP also assured that necessary assistance will be provided to the surrendered militants as per the government policy.
Major General, CA Khrisnan, IGAR (S), in his speech at ceremony said it was not an easy decision for a militant to come to the point of surrendering themselves as it is the matter of the security of themselves and also of their families. The IGAR(S) however maintained that returning to mainstream is a big step towards fostering peace.
