IMPHAL, Sep 3: Security forces arrested at least seven militant cadres in separate counter insurgency operations launched over the last 24 hours.
A statement issued by the SP Imphal East district police, said a team of the district police commandos arrested three cadres of the PREPAK VC faction from Lamlong bazar around 3 pm on September 2.
The individuals have been identified as one Moirangthem Ethem alias Manao Singh, 27, son of M. Manihar Singh of Khurai Chairenthong and Soyam Lelen alias Dinesh Singh, 40, son of Late S. Sekhor of Kongpal Tongam Leikai.
It said that on verification the individual disclosed that they are active members of PREPAK VC.
Further, the statement said that on the same day another cadre of the outfit was also arrested from his house. The individual is identified to be one Thangjam Bijoy alias Janka Singh, 41, son of Th. Ibopishak of Khurai Puthiba Leikai. The arrested individuals were involved in extortion of money from general public, government officials, shops for party fund, added the statement.
In another statement, the SP Imphal East district police also claimed the arrest of a KYKL (MDF) cadre by a combined team of the 28 AR and the district police commandos, namely Elangbam Sanjeet alias Abomcha Singh, 38, son of E. Daoji Singh of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai from Thambalkhong bridge south eastern side at about 3:30pm on September 2.
It said, on verification the individual disclosed that he joined the outfit under one Inao and is presently working under his command and he was involved in extortion of money from general public, government officials, businessmen etc. from one place to another.
Another statement of the SSP Imphal West district police, said that a combined team of the district police commandos and 39 AR team arrested two sympathizers of PREPAK and KCP (Lalheiba) from Uripok near the crossing of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.
The apprehended persons have been identified as one Khwairakpam Ibobi Singh, 38, son of Kh. Tomba Singh of Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai (PREPAK sympathizer) and Ningthoujam Lokendra Singh alias Inaocha, 33, son of N. Dhaka Singh of Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai (KCP sympathizer).
On the other hand, Thoubal district police commandos arrested one cadre of the proscribed PLA today while conducting frisking and checking duty at Charangpat and Nepra crossing, informed a released issued by the SSP Thoubal district.
The individual is identified as one Sorokhaibam Tombi alias Khoiba Singh, 38, son of Ibopishak of Sekmaijin Hangoon Awang Leikai.
The individual on questioning revealed that he is an active member of PLA and he joined the outfit in the year 2008 through one S/S Sgt. Kadamba and presently was working in the finance section of the organization.
