IMPHAL, Oct 7: Sainik School Imphal celebrated the 39th Raising Day with great pomp and show today in which state education minister L Jayantakumar Singh presided over the function.
On arrival of the chief guest, an impressive Guard of Honour was presented by the NCC cadets of the school. The celebrations started with the inauguration of Science & Arts Exhibition by Brig RS Grewal, Deputy GOC 57 Mtn Div on 06 Oct 2010. The main attraction of the exhibition was display of Defence Equipment of Assam Rifles and various working models made by school cadets in the Science and Arts Exhibition.
A variety Entertainment program was also presented by the cadets to showcase their talent and artistic skills. The education minister gave away late Capt Bimolkumar Singh memorial award for securing highest percentage in Class IX and X final examination 2009-2010 to Cdt Parikshit Thoudam of Raman House and Cdt Mohsin Khan of Tagore House respectively. O Ibetombi Devi, wife of late Maj SK Singh gave the prestigious Late Maj SK Singh Memorial Award for best performance in Class X CBSE Board Exam 2009-2010 to Cdt Mohsin Khan. The coveted NDA Trophy was bagged by Shivaji House while Best House for academics was bagged by Tagore House.
In his address by the Principal, he appealed to the State Govt to undertake two main projects mainly to construct an additional hostel of capacity of 120 boys to tide over the congestion in existing hostels and secondly running water facilities to the cadets and staff of the school.
L Jayantakumar Singh, in his address to the cadets, staff and parents, complimented the school for excelling in every field of activity. He stressed the need to continue to work hard with dedication and sincerity for achievement of the laid down objectives. Further, he assured that he will look into the requirement of the school and invited Principal for a discussion to explore the resources for the projects.
