IMPHAL, Oct 7: The state department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry organized a farmers training Program on “Backyard Poultry Farming” at the District Veterinary Office, Ukhrul which concluded on October 6.
The closing function was attended by Dr.Thokchom Debendrakumar Singh, joint director, (Vety) Ukhrul, Dr. Ngaohorsai Luithui, veterinary officer and Dr. Isaac Raingam, veterinary officer were on the dais and distributed certificates and honorariums to 55 farmers who participated in the program.
According to a release, the farmers were given knowledge for setting up small poultry units at their respective homes and appealed to the trainees to fully utilize the scientific knowledge of modern poultry learnt during the program.
Further Dr Thokchom Debendra Kumar Singh stated that Babckyard Poultry Farming should be popularized as it can help in production of more eggs and poultry meat from numerous rural farmers which will lead to a reduction in the cost and trouble of transporting of eggs from Andhra Pradesh. While giving out free chicks the department advised all farmers not to forget to take up the necessary bio-security measures so as to prevent the outbreak of emergent poultry disease like Bird Flu.
