IMPHAL, Dec 21: All available state forces are likely to be utilize during the ensuing election of the eight Municipal Council including Imphal Municipal Council and another 18 Nagar Panchayats which is scheduled to be held on January 3 next year.
According to a highly placed official source, state chief election commission has already intimated officially to the DGP Manipur for the security arrangement for the ensuing elections to the Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayat in the state, besides as per security arrangement a strong directive has been given to all concern officer in charge (OCs) of the various Police stations and outposts in various valley districts to submit the list of police personnel of all rank posted in police stations, officers, branches, out posts along with their escort and LCs separately for the engagement/deployment of the personnel in the ensuing local body election in the state which is to be scheduled for January 3 next year.
The source further said, the state government is considering for the deployment of five armed police personnel in normal polling stations and there would be more than five police personnel deployment in hyper sensitive polling stations during the ensuing elections of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, and the state government is considering for the deployment of existing police personnel, VDFs who are under training during the said election.
In the meantime four Municipal councilors and 17 Nagar Panchayat Councillors are uncontested while 13 Ward Development Committee members for the Municpal council and another 80 Ward Development Committee member in Nagar Panchayat are also uncontested even though the last date of withdrawal of nomination has passed already.
According to the final official record till now nomination papers of 256 candidates contesting for councilors and 433 nomination papers for the Ward Development Committee of the eight Municipal Councils are found valid while for Nagar Panchayat nomination papers for the 428 councilors along with 697 nomination papers for the Ward Development Committee of the 18 Nagar Panchayats are officially declared to be valid.
In the meantime, according to an official source from the state election commission all preparations for the ensuing election to the 8 Municipal Councils and 18 Nagar Panchayats are set.
