IMPHAL, Dec 26: The 26th annual general body meeting of All Manipur Newspaper Sales’ and Distributors’ Association (AMNSDA) was held today at Khurai Lainingthou Awangba Shanglen, Imphal East.
The annual meeting was attended by Thangjam Shamungou Singh, former education director, K. Ibotomba Singh, president of AMNSDA, and Maisnam Shivdutta, editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Meitei Mayek edition) as the chief guest, president and guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering at the annual meeting, Thangjam Shamungou said that newspaper hawkers play an important role in disseminating news to the people besides the reporters who are directly involved in collecting news and other information.
He further stated that the great revolutionary leader Hijam Irabot pioneered journalism in Manipur and right from his time the state is gradually advancing in this field.
Shamungou also appealed to the hawkers to be dedicated in their profession and serve the people to their best level.
The editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Meitei Mayek edition), Maisnam Shivdutta stated that the hawkers need to be organized themselves more for their development and betterment. They should also serve the people to their best level by making the newspapers available to them timely, he enjoined.
