IMPHAL, Dec 4: North East Centre for Environmental Education and Research (NECEER), Imphal is organizing a youth summit: Enviro Youth Summit of Manipur on January 16 next year at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.
According to a release, the youth summit is the first of its kind in Northeast India. Students in category wise (Category A: VI-VIII, B: IX-X, C: XI-XII) will take part in the Enviro Seminar of the summit. Participants will talk on different environmental issues and biodiversity of the state. An On the Spot Photography Contest will also be organised where contestants (Category A: 18-21 yrs, B: 22-25 yrs) will click photographs in and around Imphal city on two main themes: A. Landscape and B. Environment and Human. Prominent environmentalist, academicians and media personalities will be judges for both the seminar and photography contest. The Youth Summit is part of the NECEER, Imphal’s participation in the celebration of the United Nations International Year of Youth 2010-11 and International Year of Forests 2011. NECEER, Imphal is the only official partner of UN International Year of Biodiversity from Northeast India.
The release further mentioned that, the youth summit aimed to encourage students – public speaking and to make aware of the environmental issues of the state. The event will be organised in all the districts of Manipur in phase wise. Each district will have one Youth Leader who will lead a team. The team will organise the event in their respective districts. The event will create leadership qualities among the students, event management and the culture to work in a team. Interested students can take part in the summit by filling up the participation form which is available online at www.neceer.org.in . A core team comprising 10 students will be selected who will co-ordinate the programme and around 30 volunteers will be selected through rigorous screening.
