CHUMUKEDIMA, Dec 17 (NEPS): A Police Referral Hospital has been dedicated today here at Central Police Hospital, Chumukedima in an impressive function attended among others by high ranking police officials, officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Speaking on the occasion, State Home Minister Imkong L Imchen called the dedication of the “Police Referral Hospital” here at Chumukedima as a significant chapter for the police department especially for the “Medical Wing.”
Lauding the initiatives of State DGP K Kire and Medical Consultant, Police Department, Dr Sashimeren Aier for making the “Police Referral Hospital” possible, the Minister also highlighted and support and cooperation given by the Health and Family Welfare Department and particularly its Commissioner and Secretary, Menukhol John.
DGP K Kire also spoke on the occasion. He said they were able to rope in seven specialists posted in various battalion hospitals elsewhere in the state to start off their novel project—“Police Referral Hospital” here at Chumukedima. He stated by having now their own “Police Referral Hospital” with the seven specialists with various disciplines would be able to give required health services not only to their personnel but also citizens from nearby villages. “In a way, we will be able to save huge public money as we would be able to reduce drastically outside treatments,” he stated.
Commissioner and Secretary, H&FW, Menukhol John also expressed his happiness at the dedication of the state’s first “Police Referral Hospital,” which rather remained in doldrums for quite some time. He asked the police department to send their doctors and nurses to department’s (H&FW) various training and workshop programs to better equip themselves.
Earlier, Dr Sashimeren Aier, Medical Consultant, Police Department, briefed details of how the idea of “Police Referral Hospital” came into being and finally a “reality.” He thanked DGP Kire, Home Minister Imchen, Commissioner and Secretary John for making their concerted efforts for the project.
He said the hospital had only 2 doctors and 4 nurses in the past. Today, it has 10 doctors including 6 specialists and two more specialists would be joining them in due course of time, he added. Today the hospital has 18 nurses—some of them trained and experienced in different specialties.
Earlier the chief guest, Minister Imchen upon arrival for the function unveiled the plaque on the dedication of the new “Police Referral Hospital.”
