IMPHAL, Jan 19: The government school teachers of the state under the aegis of Council of Teachers Association (COTA) have begun their fast-unto-death strike demanding the implementation of 6th revised pay as per the memorandum of understanding signed between the state government and the JAC of AMGEO and AMTUC along with COTA.

As for the first phase of the strike, 13 teachers from different districts are on the fast-unto-death strike at Keishampat Junction. They are M. Debandra Singh of Lamlai, W. Ibohal of Bishnupur, S. Gunamani of Lamsang, N. Ibochouba of Yaiskul, T. Khogendro of Naoriya, Chalamba Athokpam of Yaiskul, N. Khogendro of Naoriya, S. Mitrajit of Uripok, Kh. Premchandra of Bishnupur, N. Surchandra of Konthoujam, H. Ingo Singh of Khangabok, Maisnam Romabati of Keishampat and RK Sobhabati of Keishamthong.
Speaking to mediapersons, the convenor of COTA, S. Gunamani stated that the teachers have decided to go on fast-unto-death strike as the last resort for demanding the state government to implement the 6th revised pay in toto.
They have taken up the extreme agitation owing to the highhandedness of the state government which has failed to fulfill the demands of the teachers despite of so many memorandums and agitations.
The state government has deliberately not implemented the 6th revised pay for the teachers who come under special category employees even after employees of other departments have been granted the revised pay as per the MoU signed between the state government and the JAC, he averred.
Gunamani further said that the tolerance and endurance of the teachers have gone beyond the limit and so they cannot bear the burden of false promises of the state government. They will fight for their legitimate demands till their last breath, he added.
It may be mentioned that the teachers of all government schools right from primary level to higher secondary level have come together under the banner of Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) to demand the implementation of the 6th revised pay in toto.
The association has already launched chalk and duster down strike, cease-work strike and even relay hunger strike for the past many months. It has also sent letters to the Registrar General of India intimating about the strike and thereof the decision of the teachers who have been assigned as enumerators of census operations to refrain from their assignment until their demands are fulfilled by the state government.

The representatives of the COTA also held several rounds of talk with the government but till now there is no positive outcome. The state government has again invited the COTA for another round of talks on January 25.
It is after this meeting scheduled on January 25 that something good or bad may happen.

    • Its a contemporary advertisement strategy t0 attract attention. If you want example then go see in most metropolitan cities.People have keen proclivity in finding mistakes than finding good things in others. So,just a psychological cues being used in advertisement!(but here might be in your side). But here what I got stopped and let me say is that these people sitting there have found the most easiest and coziest way of showing there real motive that they are tired of “working” and want some more “holidays” in their most creative demeanor!
