IMPHAL, March 9: In a significant development, an agreement was reached between Charoikhullen village chief and Silen village chief to maintain peace and harmony in the area in connection with the land dispute that nearly ignited a communal tension in the area, in a reconciliation meeting initiated by 32 CRPF.
The meet was initiated by J M Bhagat Commandant 32 Bn CRPF held at 32 Battalion head quarter Loktak around 21:30 pm and was attended by T Manga Vaiphei, MLA Henglep, Demmang Haokip vice chairman ADC Churachandpur, LM Haokip IPS Addl SP, Bishnupur Police Commando, Capt Rajen 4/8 GR, OC Loktak PSN. Duidang to find a peaceful and lasting solution acceptable to both the parties.
The meet further agreed to maintain status quo at the disputed site of the land. The Charoikhullen villagers later called on Jacintha Lazarus IAS Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur district in her office to submit their grievances over the land dispute issue simmering since early 1980s’.
It may be recalled that the disputed land issue almost ignite a communal tension at Leimatak area when one of the party resorted in dismantling houses on March 5, 2011 at around 9pm. It may be mentioned that a group of minority Chiru tribe after leaving their homestead during the Kuki-Naga clash, returned to the area with the motive of resettling themselves in their abandoned village however the other party (majority Kukis) without any warning came to the village in a large number bearing knife and sticks and asked them to leave immediately threatening with dire consequences.
The timely intervention of the 32 CRPF however averted the incident to create any unwanted tension.
