IMPHAL, Mar 9: The BJP Manipur State Unit has decried the inapt management of the state home department for not allowing the leaders of political parties to meet the President Pratibha Devisingh Patel on her two-day visit to the state.
A release of BJP Manipur said that the BJP applied a request letter bearing No. 17/BJP-MP/NLU/09 dated the 5th March 2011 to the Chief Secretary, Manipur seeking permission for six BJP leaders to meet the President of India to highlight the problems confronted by the people of the state. The Party office which is in short distance from the old secretariat is not informed till today in response to the request letter.
Now, it is obviously presumed that permission is not given. At least reasons for disallowing the Party leaders to meet the President should be intimated to the Party office. Similar instance was also taken places at the recent visit of Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Home Minister to Manipur. Irresponsibility and disrespect to the Party is condemnable, it said.
The release also said that the approach of the Party is to highlight the longstanding problems of the ongoing threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur, withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958 and internationally known Sharmila’s a decade old fast until death, cases of extra judicial killings, complex situation of law and order, existence of deep rooted corruption from the highest order, abnormal and unabated price-rise, grievances of teaching and students community, serious issues of fishing community in Loktak Lake and problems of women community in Manipur and also to cordially urge the President of India to issue necessary directives to solve the problems in the interest of the people of the state.
