CM assures assistance if death of four in Nagaland related to extremist action

IMPHAL, March 18: The state government has officially intimated its Nagaland counterpart to furnish its investigation report in connection to the incident leading to the death on the intervening night of March 6 and 7 of four members of a Muslim family who originally belong to Manipur.
This was mentioned by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who is also holding the portfolio of state home department while replying to the calling attention motion jointly raised by the senior opposition MLA, O Joy Singh and MLA Dr. Ng Bijoy in the house today on the fire incident leading to the death of four Manipuris at Chumukedima under Dimapur police station of Nagaland.
He further clarified that, as per the preliminary investigations, it has been learned that the victims identified as Md Firojkhan alias Amu his wife Bejima Bibi and their daughters Rajiya Begum, 14, and Tamana Begum, 9, who originally hail from Ipum Mapal Khumudok village, under Imphal East are presently residing at a rented house belonging to Seleh Angami at Chumukedima area of Dimapur.
It is further mentioned that, the family have been residing there for the last 20 years by running an electronic shop, besides the actual occurrence of the fire incident on the intervening night of March 6 and 7 last is yet to be ascertain by the Nagaland Police and the state government has been from time to time enquiring over the finding reports of the investigations into the incident, the Chief Minister added.
He also mentioned that, if the finding of the police finds involvement of any extremists actions in connection with the death of the said four members of the family, the state government in coordination with its nagaland counter part will provide necessary assistances to the bereaved family as per the existing schemes of the state and further added that the state is also closely monitoring the investigation conducted by the Nagaland police so as to prevent any untoward happening due to the said unfortunate fire incident.
In the meantime, MLA, Dr. Ng Bijoy while moving the call attention in the house today mentioned that, the neighbours of the victims at Dimapur have already explained the suspicion of homicide to the police and family members of the victims as the mother along with the two daughters were found charred to death on their beds while the father was found lying death near by the door inside their house which has resulted in the suspicion of the involvement of miscreant who could have locked the doors from outside before burning down the house on the fateful night.
He further termed it as unfortunate that the concerned authorities at Dimapur had failed to even conduct post mortem of the victims and sending the dead bodies to Manipur the next day on March 7, instead the authorities had only sent an official letter to the relatives of the victims in Manipur for the convenience of carrying the dead bodies upto Manipur.
Further drawing the attention of the Chief Minister to take necessary steps for finding out the true nature of the incident, he has asked the government to put strong pressure on the Nagaland government so as to avoid any possible effect on the cordial relationship between the two neighbouring states in the future.
