IMPHAL, March 7: The All Manipur Nupi Marup, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgatpa Sagatpa amadi Sinpham amadi Saktam Kanba Lup, and the Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) with the support of the Manipur State Commission for Women will be observing the 100 years jubilee celebration of International Women’s Day this year on Tuesday, 8th March 2011 at the Nupi Keithel with a simple ceremony of thanksgiving prayer and offerings to the Keithel Lairembi.
The women of the unique Nupi Keithel have always believed that the future of Manipur lies in the preservation and strengthening of women’s economic power. It is significant that this International Women’s Day 2011 also marks the successful occupation by the women of the newly constructed Nupi Keithel complex in Imphal, which was inaugurated by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress Party and Chairperson of the National Advisory Council of India on 13th November 2010. This event also signifies a new height in the participation of the market women in decision making processes of the State as a result of a decade long struggle.
