State Natl Games contingent given grand reception; befitting incentives guranteed

IMPHAL, Mar 7: The players and officials of Manipur team which has secured the state wise champion’s trophy at the recently concluded 34th National Games held at Jharkhand were given grand reception in a function organized by Department of Youth Affairs and Sports today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The reception function was graced by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, YAS Minister N Biren and Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Bijoy Koijam as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi announced that the players who have bagged individual gold, silver and bronze medals at Jharkhand National Games will be given cash incentive award of Rs 5, 00, 000, Rs 2, 00, 000 and Rs 1. 00, 000 respectively. The players securing gold, silver and bronze medals in team events will also be awarded Rs 1, 00, 000, Rs 50, 000 and Rs 30, 000 respectively, he said.
The Chief Minister also announced that a coach who has been able to produce gold, silver and bronze medalists will be given cash award of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
It may be noted that the cash incentive award for individual gold, silver and bronze medals were Rs 1, 00, 000, Rs 50, 000 and Rs 30, 000 respectively and the cash award of team events were Rs 40, 000 for gold, Rs 20, 000 for silver and Rs 10, 000 for bronze medal.
Ibobi further said that the state government would install necessary infrastructures along with necessary specialist doctors for providing sports medical facilities to the players of the state.
He also stated that the process of giving jobs to meritorious sportspersons is still going on and the state government will make special arrangement for providing jobs to the medalists of Jharkhand National Games by making five percent reservation in job recruitment.
Moreover, the non-medalist participant players and officials of the state team will also be given cash award Rs 4000 and Rs 6000 respectively. 
Lauding the excellent performance of the state players, YAS Minister N Biren stated that Manipur will strive to secure Raja Bhalendra Trophy in the next Kerala National Games, and added that the state team could not perform well owing to the shortfall in preparation and training.
The function was also attended by Social Welfare Minister N Loken, MLA T Mangibabu, MLA M Prithiviraj and Chairman of MANITRON Dr Kh Ratankumar.
