IMPHAL, Mar 18: The Governor and Chief Minister of Manipur have greeted the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Yaoshang festival.
The message from Governor Gurbachan Jagat said, “Starting from the full-moon day of `Lamta` (Phalguna), Manipur is celebrating “Yaoshang”, Holi Festival, along with other parts of the country for five days and I feel happy to greet the people of Manipur on this sacred occasion.It is the most popular festival in the State, eagerly awaited by the old and young alike. During this festival, the popular Manipur folk dance `Thabal Chongba`, dancing of boys and girls in the evening hand-in-hand to the enchanting rhythm and music, will be organized besides colour smearing among the people as a token of love and unity. Young girls will collect money from male elders and arrange feasts. An important change, has taken place of late, i.e., besides the traditional activities during Yaoshang; games and sports, dance and music competitions are extensively organized with enthusiasm in every village/locality, which ultimate boost the sportsmanship among Manipuri youths. I am sure that the festival will be celebrated in its true spirit.I do share the pleasure and joy of `Yaoshang` and extend my heartiest greetings to every Manipuri on this great occasion with the hope that peace and harmony will return to the State, as Holi is a festival of love and universal brotherhood”.
The message from Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said, “Yaoshang is one of the greatest festivals of Manipur is a festival of colours. It marks rejuvenation of the spirit of life and is celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm. The festival should inspire us to forget our differences and spread the message of love, harmony and friendship amongst the different communities in our State. While extending my warm greetings and good wishes to all on the occasion, I also hope and pray that the festival brings peace, prosperity and progress for all of us”.
