IMPHAL March 15: The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) refutes the action of the 11th Assam Rifles posted at Tamenglong for breaking ground rules and leading to the arrest of one George Gonmei ,Joint Secretary of Finance of NSCN/GPRN despite the legitimate ceasefire agreement and holding peace talks between the Indian Government and NSCN (IM).
A press release by AZSU president ,Pamei Tingenlung further states that , such wanton acts have bben committed in the past. The innocent civilians who came to control the situation to bring an understanding were manhandled by the AR personnel ,and 4 civilians were including a mediaperson were injured ,the union further decried the actions of the AR stationed at Khongsang and Awangkhul for giving unnecessary trouble to passersby.
The union urged the concerned personnel to stop harassing the public and allow them to pass freely without a time limit. The NH 53 should be opened round the clock so that commuters can travel freely and if such undue formalism is not stopped ,then the public will no longer support the slogan ‘ Friends of the hill people’.
World Consumers’ Day heldIMPHAL March 15: As observed globally ,the World Consumers’ Day was held by the Manipur Consumers’ Club today at the office of the club located at Governor road, Paona Bazar.
President of the club ,P Arunkumar , members L Shyam and Thongam Shyamma Khaba were the presidium members of the function.P Arunkumar in his speech stated the need to bring closer the consumers and the manufacturers. He stated that any complaints of consumers need to be addressed and any one can approach consumers help lines in any part on the globe. The Manipur Consumer’s Club is always ready to address the grievances of the costumers and is initiating steps to open a consumers helpline.
