CM critical of progress in Thoubal Dam project and its various components

IMPHAL, April 17: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has shown his disappointment over the slow progress of various components of the Maphou Dam especially the tunnel portions for the power and water supply unit. The Chief Minister made an official inspection at Maphou Dan site under tight security arrangement today.The meaningful inspection of the ongoing Maphou Dam project popularly known as Thoubal Multi purpose project was jointly inspected by Chivan Jeevi, Project director PCP Ltd. Guwahati along with state works minister K Ranjit, Dy Speaker Th. Lokeshwar and official concerned of the state IFDC.On the other hand Chief Minister on seeing progress of works undergoing at the Dam site along the main canal expressed his satisfactions but on seeing the progress on the construction on earthen dam site and main canal of the project, he was saddened. During his official inspection, O Ibobi Singh mentioned to the concerned officials who have been engaged in the project that state government has been keeping its target to complete the project by March next year as a result state government is ready to provide any forms of requirement in terms of security and other internal assistance for timely completion of the project.Later, ministerial team led by the Chief Minister also made a visit at site of ongoing Dolaithabi Project this afternoon. The Chief Minister while making inspection at Dolathabi Project this afternoon made his official explanation to the officers present that the failure on the part state government to start construction was due to late clearances given for the project from the Central Water Commission. He also said the construction of Dolathabi Project will start soon as state government has recently received clearance from the commission.Later, the ministerial team led by the Chief Minister on their return to Imphal today inspected newly established Sagolmang Police Station and Community Hall at Sagolmangh this afternoon.On the other hand, it has been learned officially that the official tour of state Chief Minister along with councils of ministers today were made successful through implementation of heavy security forces by the state home department.According to an official source, the pre plan security arrangement have been along the routes of the CM’s visit upto Maphou Dam, Thoubal Multipurpose project, Sagolmang today. A team of four arms units of Dy CO and one AC of 1st MR, 60 armed units led by the Dy CO of 2nd MR, 60 armed personnel from 7 MR led by Dy. CO and two Asst. Commandants, five units each of District Police Commandos of Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, 300 trainees along with six instructors from MPTC and personnel from 2nd IRB have been deployed as part of security preventive measures in view of the CM visits today and there was no report of any untoward incident.
