Girls outnumber boys in state medical entrance exam


IMPHAL, June 11: Altogether 4720 aspirant candidates which include 2745 female and 1975 male candidates are going to face the Manipur MBBS/BDS entrance examination 2011, scheduled to be held tomorrow.

A total number of 115 candidates will be selected this year of which 85 seats have been reserved for Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences while 30 are reserved for the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.

A high turn out of Schedule tribe candidates has been witnessed this year with a total of 1557 ST candidates including 863 female and 694 male ST candidates.

As with the ST category, the general category will have more female candidates numbering 816 out of the total 1279 general candidates while there are just 463 male candidates.

The examination will also have a total of 1364 OBC (M) candidates of which 774 are female and 590 are male, 234 OBC (MP) candidates 234 of which 111 are female and 123 are male, 4 OBC (T/N) candidates including 1 female and 3 male.

229 Schedule Caste candidates of whom 143 are female and 86 male will also appear in the exam.

Altogether 24 candidates are in the sports category of which 17 are female and 7 male, another 27 candidates will appear in the ex-servicemen/AF category which include 18 female and 9 male and there will be only 2 female candidates in the disable category.

The exam will be conducted in 11 centers at Educational institutes located in Imphal West district.

According to officials of the medical department, the questions for the said exam has been set from outside the state and had been kept at the Lamphel Police station after sealing it.

The officials also informed mediapersons that the sealed question papers were this morning removed from the Lamphel police and brought to the RD wing Lamphel office and was opened infront of state mediapersons by Commissioner Health, Dr. S. Ibomcha, under secretary, RD/MOBC, A. Temba.

In the meantime, in view of the entrance examination for admission to the MBBS/BDS a tight security arrangement has been made by deploying adequate state security forces from various police stations under the Imphal West and Imphal East district.

Reports further said that there will be slight change in traffic regulation within the Imphal city during the examination period.

As per the regulation, persons with valid pass only will be allowed to enter the campus of RD&PR.

An official order issued by the SP Imphal West directed that only duly identified examinees and the officials with valid identity cards will be allowed to enter the examination centers.

Moreover restriction on parking of vehicles within 100 metres of the examination center has also been imposed.

It also instructed that all officials/candidates, invigilators etc/ involved in the conduct of examination are not allowed to carry mobile phones, electronic devices in to the examinations hall and also inside the R&D wing Lamphelpat during the preparation of examination documents etc. and evaluation of answer scripts on June 11, 12 and 13.

The eleven centers included Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School, Manipur College, Regular English High School, Little Flower High School, Imphal College, Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, NG. College, Oriental College, GP Women College, DM College of Commerce and DM. College of Teachers’ Education.
