Huge cache of arms recovered from arrested UG sympathizers

IMPHAL, June 16: A combined team of Imphal West district Police commandos and Bishnupur district Police commandos, recovered a huge cache of concealed arms and ammunitions from three sympathizer of the proscribed PREPAK (VC) militant harboring the items today in Bishnupur district.

The cache of weapons which included 25 numbers of mortar shells, 11 numbers of PRG shells, 13 numbers of RPG shell extensors, five numbers of US carbine magazines, 52 numbers of lathod shells, two numbers of pressure bombs, three numbers of UMG magazine, two SLR magazines, one M-16 Riflea nd one AK-56 Rifles, a big sized shell and 30 numbers of AK ammunition were displayed and the arrested sympathizers were displayed at the Imphal West Commando Complex near the 2nd MR campus during a press conference this afternoon.

Speaking at the conference the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, S. Ibomcha, maintained that the arrest and subsequent recovery of arms and ammunition is a huge achievement for the district police departments. He said that the achievement could not have been possible without the support of the intelligence and the people.

The deputy SP further narrated that based on specific intelligence input regarding the concealing of some huge cache of arms and ammunitions of PREPAK (VC) in and around Kumbi area, the combined team apprehended two sympathizers identified as Khangembam Tomba Singh, 28, s/o Kh. Ibungo Singh of Kumbi Awang Khunou and Wahengbam Inaotombi Singh, 33, s/o W. Ibojao Singh of Kumbi Leirak Achouba,from their residence early morning today around 5:15 am.

He further disclosed that on preliminary interrogation, the two disclosed that some three months back they had concealed a huge cache of ammunitions at a fish farm owned by them and located at Kumbi Awang Khunou.

They further disclosed that the huge ammunitions were handed over to them by four unknown cadres of the PREPAK VC sent by Tomba’s brother s/s sgt. major Khangembam Shanta alias Asepa, 40 of the outfit.

According to the DSP, the duo further identified another woman sympathizer of the party who was also arrested this morning at around 6:30 am.

He further stated that the woman symphatizer has been identified as Wahengbam Amurei Devi, 33, w/o W. Thambalngou Singh of Kumbi Leirak Achouba and recovered one M-16 Riflea nd one AK-56 Rifles from her residence.

As per her version the Rifles were handed over to her by S/S Sgt. Major Ningthoujam Prem, 35 of Khordak Ichil, added the DSP.
