Repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958

The Armed Forces Special Powers’ Act has been enforced since 1958 in the North-eastern part of India in the name of suppressing insurgency. This repressive Act has failed to contend insurgency. Instead, government troops that are operating under the protection of the Act are carrying out systematic violation of human rights. In the name of upholding the Act, Manipur experiences denial of justice, suspension of fundamental rights, and suppression of democratic voices.
In order to highlight the plight and misery of the peoples affected by AFSPA, a women delegation from Manipur is organising a press conference on 25 June 2011 at Press Club, New Delhi.
