IMPHAL, June 28: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has submitted a reminder to the previous memorandum on the five charters of demand submitted to the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh today.

The memorandum has stated that the central government and the DG Assam Rifles have taken up no follow up action to their demands which include immediate withdrawal of AFSPA-1958 from the NE region, immediate transfer of 11 Assam Rifles from Zeliangrong areas.

The demands also include removal of unnecessary security check post/gates on National Highways, district highways and inter village roads, befitting punitive action against col Chonkar of 11 AR and 24 hours free movement of vehicles on National Highways, district highways and inter village roads in Zeliangrong areas.

The memorandum of the union to the PM mentioned that, the union has been expecting positive outcome from the central government on their demands, and it has been learned from the various local dailies that, the ministry of home affairs’ government of India had invited reports from the state government on the excesses committed by 11 AR besides, there was a report of an enquiry being conducted regarding the high handedness of the 11 AR by the DG Assam Rifles.

The union expressed concerned over the failure of the government to fulfill their demands, as a result the union has decided to launch democratic forms of agitations to draw the attention of the central government and all authorities concerned till their demands are fulfilled.
