DESAM points out irregularities in teachers` recruitment

IMPHAL, July 2: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has pointed out irregularities in the state government’s new method of recruiting 536 graduate teachers for Rashtriya Madhyamik Shikshya Abhiyan (RMSA) based only on the marks secured by the candidates in their various academic examinations.

Speaking to mediapersons today at the head-office of DESAM, the secretary general of DESAM, M Angamba stated that the new method of teachers’ recruitment is not appropriate as the marks of academic examinations cannot alone decide the quality of a “teacher” who will indeed be a human engineer guiding the students to the right path.

Moreover, there is a great disparity amongst various boards and universities in terms of marking system. For instance, the CBSE and NIOS have a peculiar marking system unlike the BOSEM and COHSEM, he noted.

One may get more marks than others in the examinations but that does not mean that he/she will be better suited for the post of teacher. The actual recruitment process should include language proficiency test, communication skill, written test, aptitude and personality test but all these tests have been neglected by the state government in the recruitment of teachers for RMSA, the secretary general observed.

He further stated that the state government is befooling the people by giving false promises of curtailing corruption time and again. The new method is also a tactics of the state government to make appointment based on corruption and nepotism, Angamba noted.

He said that the proposed medical test in the recruitment of teachers is again a ridiculous step which is not suitable for teachers. It would have been much better if the medical test is being done properly for the recruitment of security personnel.

The DESAM general secretary further appealed to the state government to reconsider its policy of recruiting teachers based only on their academic marks.
