`Distribution of PDS items to be more efficient`


IMPHAL, July 11: The deputy general manager of state FCI, Ksh. Thoiba has asserted that shortcomings in distribution of PDS items being faced by the state will soon be a thing of the past as the FCI godowns in some districts are on the verge of completion. At the same time, plans for expansion of the two main FCI godowns at Jiribam and Sangaiprou are in the pipeline.

Briefing media persons in this regards at his office chamber, Thoiba reminded that the month of June and July is a peak season with enormous demand that are usually very hard to meet. However, due to the relentless effort of the FCI the problem has improved to an extent, he claimed.

The FCI is planning to expand the godowns at Jiribam and Sangaiprou that feed the subordinate units located in all the districts in the state. He said the completion of construction of godowns in Senapati and Thoubal districts will also be additional balm to the shortcomings and stated that the government is further planning to build two more godowns at Pallel and Churachandpur.

Meanwhile, the deputy general manager refuted as false the allegation made by the president of Manipur Truck Owners’ Association, that a truck, number MN03T-0381, from Jiribam to Imphal deposited the challan without actually unloading the rice.

He further disclosed that the FCI department today formed a committee and initiated an enquiry to determine the veracity of the allegation. The panel has found that the truck has indeed deposited the rice in the noon of July 7.       

He further stated that the authority of FCI has received reports of trucks doing involved in wrong doings and assured that punitive actions will be taken up against any individuals found involved in any malpractices.
