`Major reforms in education system`


IMPHAL July 20: Major reform in the state education system is in the offing, expressed D D Thasii, minister of education, Manipur  while addressing the gathering on the occasion of  the 18th annual prize distribution function  organized by the Council of higher secondary education, Manipur for this year’s HSSLC examination.

Assuring a more vibrant and active education system in the state, Thasii said that starting from within these 2/3 years the appointment for teachers will be made mandatory based on teacher eligibility test. He added that preparation for training the existing untrained teachers in various government establishments has been arranged.  He said that under the existing Right to education act only from nursery till class 8 is given the benefit of free and compulsory education while the remaining higher classes are excluded. He said that the government is making an effort to make the remaining class till 10 standards to include within this act. He added that under various initiatives taken up by the central government, there is an inevitable transformation in the field of education in the state.  Further during his speech he assured that the government will provide a special package   during the next budget session for the Council to execute their works more effectively.

DD Thasii, S. Geeta devi, chairperson, COSEM, Dr. J. Suresh Babu, IAS, principal secretary education (school)govt of Manipur and W. Rajen singh, MCS, director, directorate of education(s)govt of Manipur graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

Altogether 109 students were felicitated during the function for their meritorious achievement in the HSSLC examination 2011 conducted by the council of higher secondary school, Manipur. Besides individual donors, the council gave away a gold medal and cash award of Rs. 5000, Rs4000, and Rs. 3000 along with a citation to the first second and third position holders in each of Arts, Science and Commerce stream.

A cash prize of Rs 1000 plus a citation was given to those position holders from 4th to 20th position in each of the arts, science and commerce stream in the higher secondary examination 2011 of the council.

The prizes were also given to individuals who secured distinction marks in individual papers from each of the three streams.

After lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, the guests and invitees paid floral tribute to the photographs of the past academicians, scholars and pioneers who shone in the field of education in the state.
