IMPHAL, Aug 29: The 80th Death Anniversary of Haipou Jadonang, the valiant freedom fighter from Zeliangrong community, was observed today at GM hall Imphal.
Befitting floral tribute was paid to the freedom fighter besides observing two-minute silence.
The observation was graced by I. Hemochandra, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Dr. Kh. Loken, PDA chairman and K. Ranjit, works minister as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Besides that, various civil bodies of the state, social leaders, students’ leaders also attended the function.
Delivering his chief guest speech, I. Hemochandra, assured the gathering to upgrade the observation to the state level status.
He recalled that Jadonang sacrificed his life fighting against the British colonial rule with the ideology to unite the divided population of the state and tried to bring peace and communal harmony.
The younger generation should follow the footstep of the legend, whose only aimed was to liberate the land and bring communal harmony amongst different communities and let go the divisive policy working within us, further asserted the speaker.
Works minister, K. Ranjit, in his speech, stated that the extreme sacrifice made by the great freedom fighter of the Zeliangrong community for the entire population in the state should be honoured and remembered by all section of the society.
The death anniversary of the freedom fighter was also observed at Zeliangrong house, Tamenglong district head quarter.
K. Pamei, IAS, deputy commissioner Tamenglong, Ngamthonang, for president Zeliangrong Union, Assam Manipur and Nagaland, graced the function as chief guest and president.
