`CPI (ML) to show solidarity to Sharmila with nation-wide agitation`

IMPHAL, September 29:The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Manipur state Committee has decided to launch various forms of democratic agitations in a show of solidarity to the ongoing fast of Irom Chanu Sharmila demanding total repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the state.

Stating this, KN. Ramchandaran, national secy. CPI (ML) during the press conference held this afternoon at the office of Sharmila Kanba Lup, Porompat mentioned that, there has been violation of human rights under the draconian AFSPA by security forces.

He said that the ongoing fast of Irom Sharmila, demanding total repeal of AFSPA is fully supported by the CPI (ML) and further added that the party will encourage the spirit of Irom Sharmila.

He further mentioned that, CPI (ML) in collaboration with All India Revolutionary Women Organisation has recently organized a people convention at Orissa specially to extend support to the nonviolence movement of Irom Sharmila for the cause of human rights.

He also mentioned that the recent people’s convention at Orissa have decided to pressurize the central government for the total repeal of AFSPA from the state of Manipur and also total removal of central military forces which have been deployed for controlling law and order situation in the state, he added.

He further recalled that there have been instances of different human rights violation committed by the security forces in the name of counter insurgency operations in the state under this AFSPA and the killing and brutal rape of Th Manorama Devi was one clear example of misuse of AFSPA in the state.

He finally mentioned that, the CPI(ML) will start a month long all-India agitation from October 1 next month till 2nd November to show solidarity to the ongoing fast of Sharmila during which the members of the party at various states will conduct dharna, hunger strikes and mass peace rallies in major capital cities of the country, he added.
