IMPHAL, October 29: A non-local businessman kidnapped by armed militants during Diwali celebration was this morning found shot dead from Hengken area, about 35 km from Churachandpur hq.
The non-local identified as Arunkumar alias Apura, 24 s/o Babulal Jain of Rajasthan and presently staying at LIC building, Lamka Churachandpur was found by locals with a bullet injury on his head, police informed.
The deceased Arunkumar dealing in motor parts, was staying at Lamka town, LIC building near SBI Bank in Churachandpur.
A family member informed media persons that some armed militant cadres had kidnapped the businessman from his rented residential courtyard during Diwali night on October 25, regarding monetary demands.
“We had already paid some amount of the monetary demand, however even as the family was trying to collect enough money to pay the remaining amount he was shot dead”, the family member added. The family however didn’t gave-out the name of the outfit.
Police further deposited the dead body at the RIMS mortuary.
Decrying the killing, shops remain closed at Churachandpur bazaar.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case regarding the issue; however there has been no complaint from the family members regarding the kidnapping of Arunkumar.
Arunkumar, who was kidnapped amid the Diwali festivities, was the only son of his parents.
He received one fatal bullet injury behind his head. The kidnappers did not name any underground organization, said his family and added that they believed the miscreants were his near ones.
His parents fainted in shock hearing the news of his death. The corpse was recovered by a team of Churachandpur police around 11:30 am on Saturday and later deposited at RIMS for autopsy.
