ZU condemns armed encounter between insurgent groups

IMPHAL, Oct 9: The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has decried the armed encounter between two insurgent groups in Zeliangrong area.

A release of the union stated that the incident occurred in an ambush by Zeliangrong United Front on NSCN-IM on October 7 between Taosang and Subung of Nungba sub-division in which five NSCN-IM personnel and one civilian driver were killed.

The incident is an act against the spirit of the appeal of the Chagot Phom (Zeliangrong Elders’ Forum of Peace Broker). The Chagot Phom was constituted following the declaration of cease-fire by the Government of India with different factions of Naga insurgent groups and it made a standing appeal to all insurgent groups to maintain peace in Zeliangrong area, it said.

The Zeliangrong Union strongly condemned the killing and appealed to all concerned to shun violence and seek lasting solution and peace through dialogue and peaceful negotiation with the government.
