State team to attend PM package projects review meeting at Delhi


IMPHAL, November 22: A team of state ministers and officials will leave the state tomorrow for New Delhi to attend a meeting of a committee of Union secretaries which will be held late in the evening tomorrow under the chair of Union cabinet secretary at Rashtrapati Bhawan, informed a reliable source.

According to the source, the meet will review the work progress of all projects taken up in the state under the Prime Minister’s package approved by the Prime Minister during his two visits to the state in 2004 and 2006.

The schemes which will be review during the meet are the state Capitol Project including all its three components of Legislative Assembly building, High Court complex and the civil secretariat with an estimated cost of Rs 841.843 crores; Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal Railway line with an estimated cost of Rs 3123 crores; upgradation of JN hospital to JNIMS at an estimated cost of Rs 1200 crores.

The projects also include the upgradation of National Highway 53; alternative alignment of NH 39 to by-pass Sinking areas and link Manipur to Assam through Peren, Nagaland; pipeline from the Thoubal Multipurpose Dam to Imphal city for augmentation of drinking water supply with an estimated cost of Rs 687 crores; City Convention Centre; implementation of Kasturba Gandhi residential schools in all nine districts of the state and setting up off Navodaya Vidyalayas in Ukhrul district and at Kangpokpi in Senapati district.

Further according to the source, the state team will submit the progress and utilization certificates of all projects, however the team will also lay special emphasis on the almost completed Capitol project at Chingmeirong and City Convention Centre at Palace gate.

The team will further appeal the Centre to provide full proof security for the highway development projects and the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway project. 

The team is also likely to remind the Prime Minister to inaugurate the Capitol Project and the City Convention Centre, the source informed.
