IMPHAL, December 26: A public deliberation on ‘Towards public issue based election’ was held today at the Manipur Press Club.
The deliberation organised by the People’s Campaign for Assembly Election (PCAEM-2012) was co-chaired by AK Sanaton, former president of the AMWJU and Yambem Laba, former member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
Speaking at the deliberation Deben Bachaspatimayum, chairmen PCAEM-2012, said four separate issues would be discussed during the deliberation by leaders/representatives of political parties and leaders of civil society organisations.
Issues currently burning in Manipur like the prolonged utilisation of military against the Supreme Court directive that military should be utilised temporary in a state, developing communal fragmentation in Manipur owing to identity adventionalism, rich becoming richer and poor becoming poorer and non-governance were deliberated upon during the programme.
Speaking at the deliberation, Bimol Akoijam, chairmen PCAEM-2012, said Manipuris settled around the world are known to understand problems facing Manipur and are always seeking ways and means to solve them.
He said the campaign is being initiated for the sake of the future generation even if the current generation could not rectify the problems.
