Eight shops gutted in Singjamei fire, lakhs of goods damaged,no casualty

IMPHAL, Jan 30: At least eight shops were burned down when a fire broke at a two-storeyed wooden building located opposite to Singjamei Super Market at around 9:30 pm this evening.

According to local people, the police personnel posted at Chingamakhong first spotted the fire at the building which was owned by one Kakchingtabam Kumar.

One cycle spare parts shop, one photo studio, one grocery shop, one mobile store and one beauty parlour were completely destroyed in the inferno.

Local men and women tried hard to put out the fire prior to the arrival of fire tenders.

Meanwhile, the firemen on duty took at least two hours while refilling the fire tenders at Chirom Pukhri (pond) thereby causing greater damages.

The cause of the fire and also the amount of damages could not be ascertained till the filing of this report. However, it is estimated that properties worth lakhs of rupees were damaged by the fire.
