IMPHAL, March 28: Amidst calls from various quarters to punish the four accused of the March 22 rape, the four have been sent to Sajiwa Central jail here yesterday after they were produced before the CJM court, Bishnupur.
The accused were sent to judicial custody on the charges of a gangrape case of a woman identified as Jangthaliu Kamei of Nongleiband in Leimatak, at Irom Meijrao in Bishnupur district on March 22.
They have been in the news for the last one week with widespread condemnation from several sections of the society over the alleged rape case.
The four alleged rapists are Chungkham Ibomcha alias Eigya, 37, an IRB Havildar from Thongju Boroi Makhong, Kshetrimayum Kenedy alias Dungi, 38, an IRB rifleman from Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Salam Bijen, 38, from Uripok near Suva Hospital and Laikhuram Rihit, 28, from JNIMS gate no. 3, Porompat.
