IMPHAL, March 28: The militant outfit Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has called a 12-hour general strike on March 31 calling upon the people of the state to stay away from their works for the day, dubbing the death of two handymen of a passenger bus at Keishampat, Tuesday night in a fire as murder.

While terming the act as a ‘cowardly act’ that can never be justified, the Maoist Communist Party on Wednesday said in a release issued by its secretary publicity and propaganda, Nonglen Meitei that the incident was unfortunate.

It appealed the people to stop working from 6 am to 6 pm on March 31 to condemn the alleged killing of the two youths who were working as handymen of a bus, and that the outfit will impose a general strike during the same hours.

The labourers in the state have been facing various obstacles in their struggle for livelihood for quite a long time, the outfit said, adding that bus owners in the state have extended a great help to various movements of the people and for such help, the Maoist always commends them.

Warning that the persons involved in the killing should surrender before the public within 48 hours, it said the Manipur Maoist now will stand and protect the poor labourers of the state and urged the working class to unite together for a right cause.
