Father in law admits to crime; JAC banishes family

IMPHAL, April 1: Accused in the daughter in law rape case, Mongjam Phulindro has admits to committing the heinous act to the police after his medical examination was conducted on March 31, stated a police source.

He has further remanded to police custody till April 4.

According to a police source, Phulindro’s medical examination was conducted at the RIMS Forensic Science department yesterday. He admitted to committing the crime during police interrogation, the source added.

He has been shifted to the Imphal police station from the Mayang Imphal police station.

Meanwhile, a JAC against the rape case of Bebi Devi has been formed today during a public meeting at Mayang Imphal, stated a press statement of the newly formed JAC.

The JAC further took several resolutions in connection with the rape.

The resolutions include payment of Rs 20 lakh to the victim by the state government after collecting the said amount from the family of the father in law, banished Mongjam Phulindro, his wife and son from the locality with an appeal to the general public of the state not to provide any shelter to the trio. The JAC has further demanded a harsh penalty for Phulindro.
