IMPHAL, April 1: The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) on Sunday urged the concerned authorities to complete the black topping work pending on Imphal-Jiribam road before the onset of monsoon.

Hamom Kulamani, general secretary of All Manipur Motor Workers’ Union (AMMWU) was speaking to mediapersons at the office of TDC at MG Avenue here today.

He said, all the necessary equipments and materials required in the black topping work on the National Highway 37 have been kept ready but the BRTF has not yet started the work till now.

The condition on the highway will remain the same if black topping work on the highway is not completed before the onset of rainy season, he added.

Recalling the March 27 Keishampat bus fire incident which claimed the lives of two young handymen Kulamani said, the government should pay ex-gratia to next of kin of the two victims and adequate compensation to the bus owner at the same time.

He also expressed regret over the inability of the state police to book a single culprit involved in the alleged killing till now.

Kulamani informed the media that important documents including Rs 6 lakhs kept as emergency money were destroyed in the fire incident which occurred at the union’s office at Mantripukhri on March 25.
