IMPHAL, April 5: The office of Prof. Amar Yumnam Dean of Social Sciences of Manipur University was vandalized this afternoon at around 2 pm by some miscreants, while the Dean was chairing a meeting in another room.
MU sources said, the miscreants destroyed a PC monitor and a laptop belonging to the Dean including an external Hard Disk. They also took away a Reliance 3G modem.
Prof. Amar Yumnam was chairing a meeting of the Curriculum Committee to finalize the syllabus of the human rights course when the incident happened.
Top officials of the University including Vice Chancellor (Prof) H Nandakumar Sharma and Registrar (Prof) N Lokendra visited the Dean’s room.
University authorities notified the police and a team of police officers from Singjamei Police Station came and inspected the damage, the report said. But, Singjamei PS is yet to register a case in this regard.
Reports say, at around 1.30 pm some representatives of a students’ body came to the Dean’s office and asked Professor Amar Yumnam to cancel the meeting scheduled for 2 pm today which he refused.
