IMPHAL, April 30: Several student bodies of the state led by the All Manipur Students’ Union today announced a series of protest starting May 4 with a mass sit in protest, in case of failure on the part of the government to produce kidnapped Don Bosco student T Rahul and work with the Karnataka government to book the alleged killers of Bangalore student Loitam Richard by May 4.
Meanwhile, missing boy Takhellambam Rahul has been found somewhere in Chandel bazar this evening around 2:30pm.
Th Suresh president, AMSU announced the joint decision of the student bodies during a press conference held at the AMSU hq office today.
The press conference was also attended by representatives of Manipur Students’ Federation, Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur, Kangleipak Students’ Association, Student Welfare Association of Kangleipak, Students’ Union of Kangleipak apart from media person.
Further deliberating on the issue, the spokesperson described the state government’s silence on the two burning issues of the students of the state as unfortunate and despicable.
He said the state government instead of trying to find the kidnapped student and book the culprits in the first issue and instigate the Karnataka government to take up concrete action on the second issue, has been busier in trying to expand its ministry.
He further said if the government fails to find the missing student and help the Karnataka government book the culprits involved in the alleged killing of Richard by May 4, the student bodies will launch a chain of demonstrations starting with sit-in-protests in front of schools in the state on May 4.
The May 4 sit-ins will be followed with a human chain protest on May 5 followed by a protest rally on May 7, he added.
Further if the government fails to book the killers, the student bodies will continue their agitation by locking all government offices in the state from May 8.
Speaking to media persons, DESAM general secretary Thoithoi appealed to all civil societies of the state and educational institutions for their active participation and support to the student bodies’ decision to launched the chain of agitations.
He said even after several local dailies had reported that Don Bosco student Rahul has been kidnapped by a KCP faction for a ransom of Rs 3 lakh demanded from the school authorities, the outfit’s failure to clarify indicates their involvement in the act and as such the outfit should be boycotted by the general public as a nefarious gang.
