IMPHAL, April 8: A special court of the National Investigation Agency has remanded Khwairakpam Arnold alias Bekkon, s/s captain of the proscribed UNLF for further 10 days in NIA custody.
According to a source, the s/s captain who was arrested by NIA sleuths on April 2 was produced before a special court of the agency yesterday at Guwahati.
Kwairakpam Arnold alias Bekkon, 25, son of Kh Sushil,a resident of Guwahati Manipur Basti was arrested by a team of NIA sleuths from Siliguri on April 2.
Captain Arnold of UNLF stayed in a rented house in Siliguri and was working with a private company a few years ago, but he shifted his home at Guwahati Manipur Basti, the source said, adding that he (Arnold) had been working for the militant outfit besides being an agent of a private company.
The NIA team brought him to Guwahati after his arrest at Siliguri and later produced him before the special court of the investigating agency at Guwahati and remanded to their custody for further interrogation yesterday, the source added.
Meanwhile, troops of Assam Rifles today arrested a cadre of the banned PLA at Ningthangbam under Jiribam police station in Imphal East district.
Troops of 22 Assam Rifles under the aegis of red Shield Division launched an operation in general area of Ningthangbam along with a team of jiribam police station after receiving a tip around noon today during which a PLA cadre was apprehended by the joint security team.
The cadre has been identified as self-styled sergeant Wahengbam dorendra, 29, son of (L) W Bidya, a resident of Dibong Khunou in Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East, a PIB (Defence Wing) statement informed.
One pistol and two live rounds were recovered from the house of the cadre, the statement said, adding that he has been handed over to Jiribam police station.
